Interview with the oldest Topdriver Søren Hempel [Jürgen Stempel]
Hi Søren
Thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
1-8: What was your first car and when did you participate in your first race?
Do you still remeber your result?
Søren: The oldest fart in the game was running a Ofna Ravanger, with a .28 Hobao engine… awesome.. My first race was at my home club, Søllerød Model Racing Club, (I think it is the oldest Rc club in Denmark), and I don’t think I made any good result. I had huge problems when the car was driving towards me, then left was right, very confusing I remember…
1-8: Later on you got better and better, what do you think were the most important steps in your career?
Søren: Joining the Danish Nationals made a huge difference for me. Here I could learn from the best in game. When you are older than the most in the race, it’s all about setup skills I think. Making my setup the best as possible for the track, makes it easier for me to try to keep up with the faster drivers.
1-8: What are your best results so far?
Søren: My best result most be 2010 Danish Nationals, or maybe The Hansa Cup. Danish nationals I believe I ended up as nr.8 total and Hansa as nr.7 total. I made my dream of being in the Top 10, that was nice.
1-8:Who was your first sponsor?
Søren: My first Sponsor was a French tire company called 6MIK-RACING.com. And then the rc webshop MINI-BIZZ.dk.
1-8: Now looking on to 2011, what will be your racing equipment?
Søren: I am a Mugen Seiki fan, love the way it is put together, engineering and materials of the highest quality. I like that. So it will be Mugen again this year.
1-8:How often do you practice?
Søren: Not enough I think, I easily get distracted with beers and good company. But this year I will practice more for sure. (and also practice more with the beer and cigarettes)
1-8: What major events will you take part in this year?
Søren: Well, I am going to the A-EM this year for the first time ever, that is something veryspecial, and I am looking very much forward to that. And then there is the Danish Nationals of course. Nordic championship in sweden.
1-8: A very strong top 10 finish in DC 2010 and even a victory in Jutlands Cup rd 2.Can you keep it up or do even better2011?
Søren: Well yes, thank you. It was my best year so far. I will for sure try harder this year togo even higher in the top10. I need to run the car a bit harder I think, and maybe that will give some more speed. We will see.
1-8: When will your first race be in 2011?
Søren: I believe we are going to the 1st round of the Jutland’s Cup in Bramming. It is an indoor race that I have been to 2 times before. Great fun at a very special track.
1.8: You are the founder and owner of the company HEATIT..Tell us about it?
Søren: Yes, Heatit is nice little thing, it is made for pre-heating your engine, giving you a very stable and easy engine start. As you know, cold engine start sucks. You can read more on mywebsitewww.heatit.dk
1-8: What are you doing if you are not driving with rc cars?
Søren: I am not quite sure….. I think I am working with design and designing buildings some times. One day I will know the answer to that question.
1-8: We were told that due to your age you are considering retiring from racing and focusing 100% on being a Pitman for a much younger topdriver Steffen Culmsee? Can you talk us through that?
Søren: WHEN I stop racing I will for sure be a pitman/mechanic for you Steffen Culmsee, and maybe you will do a lot better then….. J
Thanks for your time and good luck in 2011.
Søren: Thank you Steffen, and all the best in 2011. See you at the races….

This time with the young star Martin S Hansen

Hi Martin!
Thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
1-8: What was your first car and when did you participate in your first race?
Do you still remeber your result?
Martin:
My first car was a Thunder Tiger EB4, but the first "real" one was a Xray XB8 TQ wich I raced, for the first time, at the Nordic Xray-challenge, april 2007.
My result, wasn´t that good - the airfilter fell off and the engine blow!
1-8: Later on you got better and better, what do you think were the most important steps in your career?
Martin:
Joining the HRCR was the first importing step... a lot off good guys sharing their "secrets" with me and my mechanic.
Later on it took a more "pro" turn, when the first sponsor arrived, and my mechanic discovered THE fuelgun:)
2009 was the first year with a race outside Denmark, Hansa-cup in Sweden and Germany.
2010, has so fare been the most importent year, with experiences from Belgium (Nitromania x), Hansa-cup, two races in spain (B-EC warm-up and B-EC), but the best was two days racing with Yuichi Kanai at the Kyosho experience-days.
1-8: What are your best results so far?
Martin:
I am happy about my result in Belgium - semi finals and best dane.
Winning the DM5 2010 (2´nd overall).
Finishing 2´nd after Yuichi Kanai at the Kyosho experiencedays.
1-8:Who was your first sponsor?
Martin:
My first sponsor was Kyosho-Germany followed by SH-engines and Meccamo fuel.
1-8: Now looking on to 2011, what will be your racing equipment?
Martin:
We have made some changes - the car is no longer a Kyosho, but THE car form JQ Products, and the tires will be from Proline. I have kept my Futaba 4pk transmitter, but changed the Orion servoes with Savöx. Meccamo is Providing the fuel, but the engine is still a secret.
1-8:How often do you practice?
Martin:
I´ll try to pratice at least two times a week thrue the year - in the winter time I race a 1:10 2wd buggy, and when my mechanic won´t do my transportation or DSB is a mess, it is VRC on the PC.
1-8: What major events will you take part in this year?
Martin:
The first one is the Neo11 race, England, then the A-EC Warm-up and later the A-EC in Germany.
1-8: What are your objectives for 2011?
Martin:
Ofc. I will be hunting the danish nats, but i am very focused on doing good results abroad.
1-8: When will your first race be in 2011?
Martin:
I think it will be in Bramming, tuning THE new car in:)
1-8: What are you doing if you are not driving with rc cars?
Martin:
School and doing interviews;)
1-8: Rumers have it that your mechanic Mr.Hansen will leave Teen Team and move on to Team Hong nor 2011?
do you have anything to say about that?;)
Martin:
Acually i didn´t know about that. I have made some reseach, and it showed up, that he had said "no thanks", because Team Hong and Gong didn´t knew about the importence of a glass of warm milk and honney before a race! :)
Thanks for your time and good luck in 2011.

1-8.dk will present a numbers of interview's the next couple of weeks...Why not start with the Danish Champion Silas Høgholt!
Hi Silas
Thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
1-8: What was your first car and when did you participate in your first race?
Do you still remeber your result?
Silas: Well my first race was Xray Challenge in 2007. It was held in Hillerod, who had made up the most awesome track for the event, and it atracted the likes of Christoffer Svenson and Jon Hazlewood. I drove the Kyosho MP777 Spec 2:-) fitted with the old Novarossi with a squared coolinghead. I didn't go well at all. And if they was 80 participants, I probably ended up 79th:-)
1-8: Later on you got better and better, what do you think were the most important steps in your career?
Silas: Practice, practice, practice. I spent 3-4 days a week on the track. Thats the only way to learn. And I participated in all the races possible. And I joined Team Holte, which I am now in charge off. There where capable drivers on the team, who also teached me a lot, and I thank them for that. Last year, at the beginning of the year, I got in touch with David Spashett, Horizon Hobby UK, who signed me up to drive with the LOSI car, which I won the last round of the Danish Nats in 09, and became Danish champ. David has a lot of experience, and I am learning a lot from him.

David has a lot of experience, and I am learning a lot from him.
1-8: What are your best results so far?
Silas:The most important result for me has to be to first time I made it to the main final. Last round of the Danish Nats in 2008 in SOS I finished 7th. A veery happy day.
The best results is all the victories in the Danish series.
1-8:Who was your first sponsor?
Silas: Rudi from Holte Modelhobby, was my first sponsor. He gave me a good deal, and thats where it all started.
Silas: I will the racing the TLR Eight 2.0 EU, fitted with OS engines, Hitec Electronics, AKA rubber, and Sidewinder Strike fuel
1-8:How often do you practice?
Silas: Well due to 2 new family members, Filippa and Olivia, I gotta spend more time at home, but I still make it to the track 2 to 3 times a week, so its still okay.
1-8:What major events will you take part in this year?
Silas:All the Danish Nats, Nordic in Sweden, the warm-up race and the Euros in Sand am Main
1-8:Its not a secret that 2010 wasn't your year! What are your objectives for 2011?
Silas: 2010 was a confusing year. I was still new to the sport, I had just won the title, and I felt that I still had a lot to prove. I signed up with an engine company, that I had a lot of expectations to, unfortunately I wasn't able to make full use of this. In mid season I switced engines, and was then able to get back and won the title 1 point infront of the runner up. In 2011 I got my gear together. I am confident that I will re-capture the danish title for the 3rd time. Further more I want to finish in top 10 in the nordics, and top 50 in the Euros.
1-8: When will your first race be in 2011?Silas: My first race with the Buggy will be in Bramming, Varde the 12-13 of March for the first round of JC cup
1-8: What are you doing if you are not driving with rc cars?
Silas: I work out! you should se my abs. Of the track I am known as MR.Fitness.
1-8: Rumers have it that the new Hong Nor X3 should be 2-3 sec faster than the X2! do you have anything to say about that?;)
Silas: Then the Losi 2.0 Eu edition is only 0.5 secs faster. The competetion can begin.
1-8:Thanks for your time and good luck in 2011.
No problem, happy to do it:-)

Hello All.
Just wanted to let you know, that I am still working hard on the heater. Yesterday I received the okay on getting the heater CE approved. (this was very imported for me, as many electrical products does not have any safety approvals at all). Now I am only waiting for the production unit price.
I am sure it will be a great engine heater, with some great features on it, and made with good safety in mind.
One thing I am working hard on, is getting a thermostat on it, so it can keep your engine on a steady temp., so you don’t have to switch on/off all the time, and miss timing your pre-heated engine start… This will hopefully be possible.
I will keep you up to date, as soon as I get more news.
Thank you.

Dasu 2010 was a bit of a strange season with alot of bad weather,Cancel'd/moved rounds, and more disqualification than we seen the last five years...Not a season that Dasu or the most club's can be proud of. Jyllands cup is moving forward and is now the biggest 1/8 offroad Cup in Denmark with 99(115 with EP) participaters due to 81 in dasu. JC has found something that is atractive!
Anyway... we took a closer look at Team Hong Nor's 2010 season and put it out in numbers!

Hong Nor took40% of all podium spots(6of 15).

Engine pre-heater 220V.
HeatIt© will pre-heat all the important elements of your nitro engine. This will result in a very easy and smooth engine start. It is perfect for breaking-in your new engine, and at the same time it will extend the lifespan of your engine.
The idea with this engine pre-heater is; 220v, so it can be used in the pit area, no fuzz with battery and 12v transformers. Keeping the design very simple, so that HEATIT© will be affordable... NO expensive designs here, just pure functionality…
